Alereon Introduces Array of Ultrawideband Development Tools: Multiple Tools Allow Developers to Implement Wireless USB and WiMedia Production Designs

FOCUS Enhancements was extremely encouraged by the number of WiMedia UWB systems demonstrated at CES ’06, the high level of interest shown in UWB in general and specifically the interest shown in its Talaria™ UWB Technology. Talaria UWB Technology is designed to work with all compliant WiMedia products and also contains the company’s own extended-performance UWB technology. FOCUS Enhancements conducted private demonstrations of its UWB analog RF chip, performing from 3.2 GHz to 7.2 GHz. This additional usage of the UWB spectrum (4 GHz v. the normal 1.5 GHz coverage) will provide faster data rates and will be able to utilize the higher frequencies being considered by Asian and European UWB regulatory bodies.

Also, the company demonstrated its UWB Evaluation platform and user interface (UI) in both the WiMedia pavilion and its private suite. In addition to providing full multi-stream HD video streaming and high speed data transfer capabilities, these systems contain a comprehensive test suite for measuring, monitoring and logging UWB performance in a variety of surroundings and conditions. HP showed 2 demos at this year's CES. The first demo showed printing and scanning using an IP protocol stack over UWB between 2 PCs and an HP 3310 All in One Photosmart Printer. The second demo had an HP Photosmart 425 GoGo Photo Studio (portable printer and digital camera), which communicated to a notebook computer using Certified Wireless USB.

MindTree Announces Portfolio of Ultrawideband Intellectual Property for License to Global Silicon Vendors
Santa Clara, January 25th, 2006 - MindTree Consulting, a leading provider of Bluetooth Intellectual Properties (IPs) and solutions, today announced its basket of Ultrawideband (UWB) building blocks for license to leading global short range wireless silicon vendors. At CES 2006 , SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) demonstrated HD (High Definition) video streaming with their own CMOS RF and modem chip set. Samsung's demonstration differed from others that it showed real high-data throughput based on a real user environment that users want to see: PIP (Picture-in-Picture) HDTV.
Samsung also announced that their research will be focused more on realistic chip sets, which means low power and reasonable throughput for mobile devices and for real products.

Staccato demonstrated Certified Wireless USB over its Ripcord single chip all-CMOS solutions at this year's CES. Staccato demonstrated a wirelessly enabled hard-drive (with embedded DWA) streaming video to a hub-monitor (with embedded HWA), which was in turn connected to a computer. Staccato also demonstrated a DWA-enabled wireless hard-drive transferring a video stream to an HWA enabled desktop hub. These demonstrations utilized Staccato's newly introduced SC3501 and SC3502 System-in-Package products.

Staccato Communications Introduces Ripcord Family of Products based on Certified Wireless USB Industry’s First Single-Chip, All-CMOS UWB Solutions

Stonestreet One demonstrated their UltraSuite product based on Certified Wireless USB, which consists of Host Wire Adapter (HWA) / Device Wire Adapter (DWA) driver software for Windows XP. Also shown was WiCenter™, an application to manage association and connectivity. The demonstration showed the complete Windows XP HWA/DWA driver stack necessary to handle an attached HWA connected downstream to a DWA with an attached Mass Storage Device.

Stonestreet One Announces UltraSuite™ Product Availability
Carlsbad, CA, January 4th, 2006 - Stonestreet One, a leading provider of short range wireless software solutions and engineering services, today announced beta availability of UltraSuite™. UltraSuite includes Wireless USB Host Wire Adapter (HWA) and Device Wire Adapter (DWA) drivers, WiCenter™ connectivity software, and the UltraView engineering tool. UltraSuite supports Windows XP today and thereby allows commercial shipment of Windows products based on Certified Wireless USB in 2006. TRDA/Taiyo Yuden has developed a small-form factor UWB PHY module based on the WiMedia specification.

During CES, Taiyo Yuden showed an HD video streaming demonstration using WiMedia Band Group 1 at maximum data rate of 480Mbps. At the same time, Taiyo Yuden utilized its own miniaturized and optimized ceramic UWB components including antenna, band pass filter and balun. Taiyo Yuden has been a well-recognized leader in industry for developing miniaturized UWB ceramic components since the beginning. Taiyo Yuden will continue to be the leader for providing a total UWB Ecosystem solution that will enable OEMs to accelerate the integration of UWB technologies into a variety of consumer applications.

At this year's CES, TZero demonstrated its UWB platform, WiMedia’s first complete WiNET product, comprised of a 2 chip CMOS solution transmitting real-time streaming of HD video wirelessly.

Wipro Technologies is one of the earliest providers of UWB (WiMedia Alliance) based Intellectual Property (IP) cores. At CES 2006, Wipro demonstrated transmission of video stream over WiMedia solution. In this demonstration, Wipro used its own WiMedia MAC IP core and third party WiMedia PHY and RF module to demonstrate the video transmission.

At this year's CES, WiQuest demonstrated high-definition, 1080i, video streaming over wireless USB. One WiQuest evaluation kit (WQST100EVK) connected to an external, USB hard drive performed the DWQA functionality to another WQST100EVKK connected to a Media Center PC which performed the HWA functionality.

WiQuest also demonstrated its newly-announced wireless USB Adapter (WQST100RDK-ADA) and Hub reference design (WQST100RDK-HUB) – specifically, showing the wireless USB adapter . The wireless USB Adapter and Hub are both based on certified wireless USB from the USB Implementers Forum. This demonstration consisted of 2 notebook PC’s, each with a WiQuest wireless USB Adapter plugged into the USB port. As data was being sent (via wireless USB) the demonstration compared actual versus theoretical throughput in a bar graph format for each of the WiMedia data rates, up to 480 Mbps. As the data was being sent, the bar chart would update in real-time.

Both of these demonstrations utilized the WQST110 and WQST101 chipset. This chipset includes a fully-integrated WiMedia MAC, PHY, RF transceiver and USB 2.0 Controller/PHY. The chipset supports WiMedia data rates of up to 480 Mbps and extended data rates of up to 1024 Mbps.

Evaluation kits and reference designs are available now and allow users to quickly and conveniently test the features/functions of the chipset, firmware, software, drivers, and diagnostics.

Ed Thomas, former chief of the Federal Communications Commission’s Office of Engineering and Technology, delivered the press event keynote presentation.
